Safeguarding
The GEF’s Safeguarding Section confidentially receives reports of non-accidental violence, harassment, and abuse, as defined in the FIG Policy and Procedures for Safeguarding and Protecting Participants in Gymnastics.
Every complaint goes through an initial analysis to determine whether FIG rules, policies, or procedures have been breached. When an investigation is required, the GEF defines the appropriate process and the individuals who should be involved.
Where appropriate, the GEF works with independent external experts to avoid any conflict of interest. If criminal or civil laws are involved, it identifies the relevant jurisdiction and informs the competent authorities.

Disciplinary
The GEF’s Disciplinary Section is set out in detail in the GEF Operational Rules. Disciplinary proceedings may be opened by the Director of the GEF based on the findings of an investigation into a complaint.
Proceedings are governed by the FIG Code of Discipline as well as international and Swiss law. Outcomes are communicated to the Director, who informs all concerned parties, and decisions taken by the Disciplinary Commission must be implemented by the FIG.
Following the FIG Congress decision in Doha on 26 October 2024 to repeal the GEF Appeal Tribunal, decisions are now appealable directly to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Oversight
Compliance
The GEF’s Compliance Section oversees how the FIG and its members comply with all relevant rules and procedures. It reviews complaints, denouncements, and acts that breach FIG rules and regulations, and works to bring all parties back into compliance in an effective and appropriate way.
The GEF may also be called upon to advise the FIG and its members on the application of ethical principles and good governance.
